PEN Melbourne needs a new Writers in Prison Officer

About the role
Are you passionate about freedom of expression and human rights? PEN Melbourne is looking for a Writer In Prison Officer whose role is to support and advocate for writers in many countries whose voices have been silenced, and who have been imprisoned or are persecuted.

You will be working with the PEN International community to advocate for the better treatment of writers globally. You will be responsible for sending out letters to government officials and embassies to let them know the wider community will not tolerate censorship and injustice directed towards those writers who are simply doing their jobs.

This position with PEN Melbourne is an exciting and fulfilling one for writers and social advocates who feel strongly about freedom of information and our right to have a voice. You will be heading up a small but dedicated team of PEN Melbourne members who have offered to volunteer to assist with sending out these letters. The writing and distribution of letters in response to information sent from PEN International usually takes about 2- 3 hours a week and is carried out electronically.

The position is also a member of the PEN Melbourne Committee which meets bimonthly. This position is the heart of PEN work both locally and globally.
