PEN Melbourne AGM & Annual Card Writing to Imprisoned Writers

  • The Wheeler Centre, Level 4, Workshop Space 176 Little Lonsdale Street Melbourne, VIC, 3000 Australia (map)

The AGM and the card writing session are an opportunity to connect with other PEN Melbourne members and to show solidarity with persecuted and imprisoned writers globally. To mark PEN International’s 36th Day of the Imprisoned Writer on 15 November, we will read excerpts of the writings, political context and call to action of the six highlighted Writers in Prison for 2017:

  • Cesario Alejandro Félix Padilla Figueroa - Honduras

  • Nguyen Ngoc Nhu Quynh  - Viet Nam

  • Ramón Esono Ebalé  - Equatorial Guinea

  • Razan Zaitouneh - Syria

  • Zehra Doğan - Turkey

  • Dareen Tatour, Israel

Please see the PEN International page for this action.

Catering will be provided by the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, for which we ask a contribution of $15 per head.  The canapé-style food will be vegetarian with vegan and wheat/gluten free options. Please RSVP to Jo: memberships@penmelbourne.org

We would also like to invite you to consider joining the PEN Melbourne Committee. We need a new membership secretary and someone who would be interested in coordinating our community events (usually 4-6 events a year) and help with fundraising.  If you are interested in joining the committee please do not hesitate to contact the Secretary, Jackie Mansourian, at admin@penmelbourne.org

Warm wishes and we look forward to seeing you on the night.
